Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority hosts more than 100 diabetic children with the aim to improve the quality of care for those with diabetes
In-line with its mission to support local community initiatives, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority hosted more than 100 diabetic children from across the GCC and wider Middle East during the tenth edition of Basma Camp.
The annual event, which was attended by H.H Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of H.H Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian & Scientific Foundation, aims to improve the quality of care for the children, through education and training on the day-to-day impact of the disease.
Taking place at the Ras Al Khaimah Sports Hall, executive chefs from the emirate’s leading hotels and resorts provided cooking lessons and tips on healthy eating during a Little Chef activity. The delegation was then whisked to dinner at the Al Marjan Island Resort & Spa, provided for the children and their families by RAKTDA in partnership with Medical Zone.
The highlight for one child was having their wish to travel to Los Angeles fulfilled when H.H Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan gifted flight tickets for her to meet her aunt through the ‘Make A Wish Foundation’.
Commenting on the importance of the day, Haitham Mattar, CEO of RAKTDA, said: “This initiative emphasises the importance of healthy living in a fun and interactive way, and something we are proud to be supporting. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that our local community is healthy and well educated on a range of medical illnesses and diseases. With 2017 being the “Year of Giving” we are proud to be able to provide genuine services to residents of the UAE and children all over the world.”
