Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) launched a brand-new skatepark at Saqr Park, its latest outdoor attraction in the Emirate’s largest recreational park, at a fun-fueled family event over the weekend.

The official inauguration of the skatepark took place on Friday, 28th February with the launch festivities running from the 27th – 29th February. The event welcomed visitors to a weekend of pop-up dining concepts in partnership with RIPE Market, shopping and special performances from renowned skateboarders – 15-year-old Isabelly Avila, her father Garcia Rodriguez and 13-year-old Virginia Fortes Aguas. The skateboarding pros also led workshops where visitors got the opportunity to learn various tips and hone their techniques.

Raki Phillips, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority shares, “The new skatepark at Saqr Park serves to enhance the active family friendly offerings of Ras Al Khaimah. It caters not only to people who love adrenaline sports, but also to those simply looking for somewhere fun to spend time with their family and friends. To reinforce the inclusivity of the new attraction, we invited leading international skateboarders such as Isabelly Avila and Virginia Fortes to take to the ramps, promoting the sport to all guests, regardless of age or gender. A key differentiator of our strong active tourism portfolio is its sustainable nature, in this case showcasing the stunning flora and fauna in the Emirate, thanks to its unique nature inspired design and position within a Ghaf Tree reserve. We are thrilled with the addition of a new skatepark to our largest recreational park and look forward to welcoming travellers and UAE residents to this unique space.”

The new skatepark is a key addition to Saqr Park, the largest recreational area in Ras Al Khaimah. The park offers a well-equipped outdoor space spanning 620sqm for the UAE’s growing skating community and guests to face off against a series of obstacles, including a various sized ramps, bowls, pyramids, ledges, banks and round rails. The park seeks to enhance Saqr Park’s standing as a one-of-a-kind leisure venue and is set to become a hotspot for the Emirate’s avid skateboarders, rollerbladers and BMX bike riders.

Eng. Ahmed Al Hammadi, Director General of Public Services Department, commented, “The launch of the skatepark at Saqr Park, the only skating space inside a public park in the UAE, reflects our department’s keenness to serve visitors and provides a warm environment for them and their families. This project was completed in conjunction with a number of other development projects for the park with the aim of meeting different aspirations of the ever-growing visitors and residents of the Emirate.” He continued to add, “With the aim of increasing sports facilities for the youth, the recreational space spans an area of 620 metres and is centered around greenspace in a Ghaf Tree reserve within Saqr Park. This ensures the preservation of our national tree whilst providing natural shading to visitors.”
