Authority welcomes more than 400 travel trade and media across Belgium, Netherlands, Russia, Italy and France to showcase its authentic Arabian heritage and multi-faceted leisure offerings to the European market

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has toured five key European countries as part of its ongoing promotional strategy to increase visitor numbers from core and emerging source markets across the continent.

Kicking off the roadshow in Brussels, the Authority then attended a number of tailored travel trade and media events across Amsterdam, Moscow, Milan, Paris, St. Petersburg and Zagreb, to raise awareness of the destination’s expanded culture and leisure offering to key trade and media influencers.

Welcoming more than 400 travel trade and media, RAKTDA provided an overview on Ras Al Khaimah’s attractions, natural beach, desert and mountain assets, as well as the latest product launches rolling out across the geographically diverse landscape of the UAE’s northernmost emirate.

“International markets are crucial to our goal of achieving one million visitors by the end of 2018, and we have seen significant growth in both core and emerging source markets so far this year,” said Haitham Mattar, CEO, RAKTDA, which develops and regulates the emirate’s tourism infrastructure and initiates its domestic and overseas promotions.

“Ras Al Khaimah is a multi-faceted tourism destination that appeals to a wide cross-section of visitors keen to explore the unique tourist attractions of the emirate, whether they are beach-seekers, active adventurers or wellness seekers.”

Internationally, Ras Al Khaimah’s four largest source markets remain Germany, Russia, the UK and India. The domestic UAE market continues to be the emirate’s most significant source market in terms of visitor numbers, accounting for over a third of total visitors between January and September of this year. Emerging destinations such as Poland and Czech Republic are increasingly key contributors, with significant year-on-year growth in visitor’s arrivals in the first nine months of 2017, registering a growth of 280 per cent and 68 per cent respectively. Growth in arrivals was also witnessed from Italy – up by eight per cent, France – up by five per cent and Netherlands – up nine per cent between January and September 2017.

“Ras Al Khaimah boasts a number of attractions and natural assets that are key pillars in attracting visitors from Europe. In addition to offering fantastic value for money, the emirate enjoys unique landscapes, including 64 kilometres of pristine beaches; terracotta desert; abundant wildlife, nature, mountains that are 10 degrees cooler and uninterrupted sunsets; as well as the amazing hotel facilities, spas, kids’ clubs, chilled pools and diverse culinary options,” added Mattar.

During its European roadshow, RAKTDA participated in the 54th edition of TTG Incontri in Rimini, Italy, that took place between 12-14 October to promote the emirate’s rich culture, breath-taking natural attractions as well as new product openings in Jebel Jais, including the world’s longest zip line, a multi-purpose Viewing Deck and official cycling and hiking routes across the emirate.
