From zip-lining and horse-back riding to a night spent under the stars, the much-loved emirate of Ras al Khaimah has every base covered

As the onset of summer rears its overheated head, there’s only a few weeks of spring weather left to enjoy beaches, camping and outdoor activity.

Thankfully, Ras Al Khaimah is only a hop, skip and jump away from Dubai and the UAE’s most northern emirate boasts a wealth of outdoor adventure attractions, al fresco treats and signature leisure activities that are perfect for residents looking to inject a little bit of excitement of chilled our recuperation into their weekends.

While Ras Al Khaimah’s pristine sandy beaches are a major pull in themselves, the popular emirate is a melting pot of action. Here are five of the top attractions to make the most of while you still can…

1. Jebel Jais Via Ferrata

Get your adrenaline pumping with Ras Al Khaimah’s flagship adventure tourism product and zip-line across Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain pea. This three-point ‘Iron Path’ comprises three individual start and finish points, as well as three zip-lines coming in at 165 feet, 195 feet and 985 feet long, making it the ultimate experience for those looking to challenge themselves.

2. Ras Al Khaimah International Marine Sports Club

One for all you water babies out there, Ras Al Khaimah’s International Marine Sports Club offers everything from diving and water skiing, to banana boating, dragon boating and stand-up paddle boarding. What’s more, the lush natural mangroves of the Corniche al Qawassim’s bay lagoon make for the perfect backdrop for an early afternoon kayak.

Nestled in the heart of Showka, the track is open to cyclists of all experience levels and offers bike rental, plus servicing and repairs from highly-experienced mountain bikers. If that isn’t enough to convince you, the stunning Hajar Mountains Wadis make for some seriously impressive viewing en route.

4. Al Wadi Equestrian Adventure Centre

For a day out with a difference, you definitely want to pay a visit to this dedicated equestrian centre. Pick your horse and saddle up as you enjoy an organised horse trek through the centre’s 500 hectares of unspoilt nature. Horses don’t take your fancy? Explore the surroundings on camels, too, while archery, as well as a desert landscape with free roaming wildlife will keep you entertained for hours. Keep your eyes open for sand gazelles and Arabian oryx, and, if you’re lucky, you may even spot some desert foxes and wildcats.
